The Earth∞Space Sustainability Initiative (ESSI) has appointed space underwriter David Wade of the Atrium Space Insurance Consortium (ASIC) to the ESSI Board of Directors.

David has over 30 years’ experience in the space sector, working in space industry and space-related academia before joining the space insurance market in 2000.

David holds a post graduate degree in Astronautics and Space Engineering and is a graduate of the International Space University. He has previously held the position of Chairman of the Lloyd's Market Association Satellite Risks Committee and the International Union of Aerospace Insurers Space Risks Study Group; and remains an active member of both groups.

David joined Atrium in 2007 to head up the Atrium Space Insurance Consortium.

“We are thrilled to have David join us on the ESSI board. His vast experience of the space insurance market will help ensure that ESSI can deliver on its promise to find ways of incentivising sustainable activities in space,” says Joanne Wheeler, ESSI Director.

The Earth∞Space Sustainability Initiative is an organisation dedicated to understanding and incentivising sustainable activities in space.

To do this ESSI brings together industry, academia, governments and international organisations, with the finance and insurance communities to ensure that space continues to support the environmental, economic and scientific interests of current and future generations.

“I am honoured to be joining the Board of ESSI. Humanity relies on space based services. We must ensure activities in space are performed in a sustainable manner so that we continue to benefit from these services into the future. The work of ESSI will help provide the confidence that the insurance and finance communities need to support the rapidly growing space sector,” says David.
